Find where the heat is going

A furnace running constantly in January is usually not a furnace problem. It is a roof, a rim joist, or a run of missing insulation nobody can see.

A thermal survey from the air shows it. Warm areas on a cold roof are heat leaving the building, and the report says how much warmer, measured, rather than describing a colour.

When we can fly it

Thermal only works under the right conditions, so we do not pretend otherwise. We need roughly 18 degrees of difference between inside and outside, low wind, and a flight well after sunset so the roof is not still holding the day’s sun.

In practice that means winter, at night.

If the conditions are wrong on the day, we say so and reschedule. A survey flown in the wrong conditions produces a report that looks convincing and means nothing, and you would have no way to tell the difference.

What you get

Measured temperature differences for every area of concern, imagery showing where they are, and a written finding for each one. What a differential is consistent with, and what it is not.

Thermal indicates, it does not confirm. A warm patch is consistent with missing insulation, an air leak, a thermal bridge, or trapped moisture, and from the air those look alike. We will tell you where to look. Opening a wall is how you find out for certain.
